As Hurricane Dorian escalated to a Category 5 storm last week, it wreaked havoc in the northern Bahamas for 48 hours before moving north. These 48 hours were catastrophic, destroying everything in its path and leaving an estimated 70,000 people homeless. Thankfully, the hurricane is now in the past, but efforts to restore the Bahamas to its prior glory have only just begun.
But thankfully, there are ways to help the tropical islands even if you are thousands of miles away. Thanks to the Engage! Foundation, here are two trusted ways you can assist those affected by the monstrous storm immediately.
The Baha Mar Foundation
The Baha Mar Foundation is currently "spearheading hurricane relief efforts" in the Grand Bahama and the Abacos by providing shelter, food and medicine to those in need. 100% of the proceeds donated through this link will go directly to those affected by the storm.
The Baha Mar is a luxury resort on the island of New Providence and only experienced minimal damage from the storm. "Many of our associates have relatives living in the affected islands, so this devastation is personal to everyone at Baha Mar and we feel the suffering," they said in a statement. "We hope there is comfort and strength in knowing that the nation of The Bahamas, and the Baha Mar family, stands fully behind those in need."
The Sandals Foundation
Additionally, the Sandals Foundation is also collecting donations for residents of the northern Bahamas. By donating through this link, you can help rebuild the island region and restore the lives of those affected. All donations will go directly to those in need and checks can also be mailed to addresses in the United States, United Kingdom, Jamaica and Canada.
The Bahamas have long been a staple in the wedding industry, hosting countless destination weddings and honeymooners. Now it is time to return the favor and help the region that has given so many wonderful memories to brides and grooms!
