Queen Elizabeth II Gave Meghan Markle the Prettiest Gift

Less than a month after the royal wedding, Meghan Markle and the queen seem to be getting along just fine. The two royal women made their first joint public appearance, without Harry, on Thursday in Cheshire, England, and they clearly have a connection. So much so that Markle accessorized with a very special gift from the queen: pearl and diamond earrings that appear to be a smaller version of the ones QEII was wearing herself. Buckingham Palace confirmed to E! News that the Duchess of Sussex was indeed showing off her new gift. It's unclear if the jewelry was from the queen's personal collection or if the piece was bought specifically for Meghan.

The duchess paired the earrings with a custom Givenchy dress, finished with a thin black belt and clutch as well as black "Perfect Pump 100" heels, created by her favorite footwear designer, Sarah Flint. At the event, Markle was all smiles, telling well-wishers about how much she loves married life. “It is wonderful,” Markle reportedly told one fan. “I'm really enjoying it.” She also reportedly said that Prince Harry is "the best husband ever" and that the public's love "means an awful lot" to them as a couple.

Markle's first royal outing with the queen sans husband is important for more than one reason. Not only did she get the earrings as a sweet gift, but she also rode the royal train, an honor that Prince Harry himself has yet to receive. The two traveled to Mersey Gateway Bridge, where they watched local schoolchildren perform at the Storyhouse theatre, and later went to Chester's town center to meet with members of the public before lunching at the Chester Town Hall. The only hitch was when neither women knew which should get in the car first. But as any Princess Diaries fan will tell you: The queen never slides.
