Prince Harry and Meghan Markle's Engagement: Everything You Need to Know

It's happening! It's really happening! Prince Harry and fiancГ©e Meghan Markle just revealed the exact day that they will tie the knot. Mark your calendars, everyone, and prepare to call in sick to work, because the Royal Wedding between Prince Harry and Meghan Markle will be on-drumroll, please!-May 19, 2018.

Just a day after the couple's royal engagement was announced, a statement released by palace officials revealed that Prince Harry and Markle will wed in May 2018 at St. George's Chapel at Windsor Castle in England. "Her Majesty the Queen has granted permission for the wedding to take place at the Chapel," the statement read. "The Royal Family will pay for the wedding. Further details about the wedding will be announced in due course." Sadly, no specific date had been set at the time, leaving us waiting in anticipation.

Fortunately, we weren't waiting long, as Kensington Palace announced today that the pair will wed on May 19, 2018. "His Royal Highness Prince Henry of Wales and Ms. Meghan Markle will marry on 19th May 2018," read the royal announcement on the Palace's Twitter page. "Today's announcement follows earlier confirmation of the month of the wedding and its location at St George's Chapel, Windsor Castle."

Their wedding venue has also seen its fair share of previous royal weddings, including Prince Charles and Duchess Camilla's blessing in 2005. Harry was also baptized at the chapel in 1984. This location offers a smaller, more intimate venue than Westminster Abbey, where Prince William and Kate Middleton wed in 2011.

Royal expert Kate Nicholl revealed to ET the reason behind Harry's sudden date and location choices, and it's quite cute. "He wanted something close to home for the Duke of Edinburgh and the Queen," said Nicholl. What a family man!

"In fact, one of the reasons that Prince Harry has wanted this wedding to happen quite quickly-this is really whirlwind by royal standards-is because his 96-year-old grandfather, the Duke of Edinburgh, is retired now and Prince Harry really wants him to be at his wedding," she added. "He's incredibly close to his grandfather and, being 96, Harry thought it was it was a great thing to have the wedding sooner rather than later, so his grandfather could be there, fit and healthy."

Reportedly, Prince Harry had actually proposed to Markle in November at Nottingham Cottage at Kensington Palace, which is also where the couple will live. They had been attempting to roast a chicken on a relaxed Sunday night when Harry surprised Markle and popped the question. They both gushed about the proposal during their first joint interview as an engaged couple yesterday, with Markle describing it as "so sweet and natural and very romantic."

Following the engagement, the Suits actress will say goodbye to her profession, and sources report that she's already begun moving into Nottingham Cottage with her future groom. Prince William and Kate Middleton will be their new neighbors, living next door with Prince George, Princess Charlotte, and the soon-to-be next heir. Middleton's expected due date for her third child is April 2018, which falls right before Harry and Markle's wedding.
