She went from walking in pageants to walking down the aisle. Former 2005 Miss America winner, Deidre Downs Gunn, married attorney and writer Abbott Jones this weekend in a small, romantic ceremony in Birmingham, Alabama.
On Saturday, the two brides walked down the aisle at the Birmingham Museum of Art, a venue that perfectly fit their southern romance theme. Though the entire affair was stunning, Downs Gunn, 37, told People that the most meaningful part of the big day was their vow exchange.
“Saying our vows in front of our family and friends and making that commitment to the love of my life was the most meaningful part of the day for me,” explains Downs Gunn, who works as a obstetrician-gynecologist specializing in reproductive endocrinology and infertility.
The couple paid homage to Down Gunn's accomplishments in their wedding hashtag "#DrandMrsAmerica," and opted for a neutral, romantic look for their ceremony and reception decor, which included plenty of pastel florals and candlelight. The decor was designed and created by wedding planners Invision Events, and the brides chose photographers Kelli & Daniel Taylor Photography to capture their special day.
The former Miss America chose a form-fitting gown by LianCarlo, while her wife donned a Sareh Nouri ball gown.
“I feel overjoyed to have found someone to share life's adventures,” Downs Gunn told People. “The wedding was beautiful and special, but it was really just the beginning of our life together. I'm so lucky to have a wife who fills even small, everyday moments with great joy.”
