Meghan Markle and Prince Harry Made a Surprise Visit to Northern Ireland

Well, this is a pleasant surprise! On Friday, the people of Belfast in Northern Ireland were treated to an unannounced visit from Meghan Markle and Prince Harry. With less than two months to go before the royal wedding, the happy couple talked to students about being ambassadors for peace before learning some local history at a famous bar.

According to the Kensington Palace Twitter account, which sneakily announced their arrival on Friday morning, this is the couple's first official joint visit to Northern Ireland. They reportedly had to keep it secret, E! News reports, because of "security reasons." It's unclear whether the security concerns were specific to the couple, or if it was because of the rocky history between the country and the royal family. Back in 1979, according to The Guardian, Prince Charles's uncle, Louis Mountbatten, and Lord Mountbatten's teenage grandson, Nicholas, were killed in a bombing by the IRA.

Whatever the security reasons, Meghan Markle and Prince Harry were warm and friendly with the locals, sitting next to students involved in a peace-building initiative founded by Prince Harry and mingling with staff and local comedians at the local Crown Liquor Saloon. According to the Kensington Palace Twitter account, Prince Harry founded Amazing the Space last year to "encourage young people to become ambassadors for peace within their communities." While celebrating their work at the Eikon Exhibition Centre, the royal couple had some inspiring words for the youngsters.

“The previous generations have caused such problems, but with your help it can never happen again," Prince Harry told the youth, according to PEOPLE. "You're trying to educate the older generation, which is just amazing. Well done. Clean the slates guys, you got this!”

Laughing at Prince Harry's extremely dad-esque pep talk, Meghan Markle joked, “No pressure," while wearing a cream-colored Victoria Beckham knit top (that she originally wore in one of her engagement photos!) and a forest green skirt by Greta Constantine. While both pieces are already sold out (shocker), the beige Mackage coat Markle wore to top off her look is still available for $750. She also carried the Bloomsbury top-handle bag from Charlotte Elizabeth that you can pre-order here for under $250!

“Over the years religion has divided us but we're all the same underneath," Prince Harry continued. "The most important thing is that the door is open and you just keep pushing at it. Ten, fifteen, years ago you would have been up against the tide, but you're going with it now. Keep it up!”

Later, the royal couple will tour Belfast's famous Titanic exhibition after wrapping up their visit to the Crown Liquor Saloon. It's unclear whether they'll recreate the "I'm flying!" scene from Titanic, but here's hoping.
