The Met Gala has long been a place for romantic revelations, with several famous couples making their public debut on its red carpet over the years. But rapper 2 Chainz decided to up the ante this year when he dropped down to one knee while climbing the iconic steps of the Metropolitan Museum of Art to propose to the woman by his side, Kesha Ward.
Wearing Versace for his very first Met Gala appearance, 2 Chainz made the night even more memorable with the proposal, which was apparently a last minute decision. When asked by Complex when he decided to pop the question to Ward, 2 Chainz replied "about a minute ago." But since he was seen presenting Ward with a ring while down on one knee, 2 Chainz clearly had some idea that a proposal would happen at some point during the night.
Ward looked visibly shocked when 2 Chainz popped the question. "It's crazy, he just gave me this," Ward told E! Red Carpet immediately after the proposal. "I'm so proud."
Perhaps Ward was caught off guard because she and 2 Chainz are already married. In fact, he previously proposed for the first time at another major event: the 2013 BET Awards, according to People. They were married later that year and share three children together-daughters Heaven and Harmony, and son Halo.
2 Chainz also isn't the first celebrity to propose at the Fashion Oscars. Back in 2004, now-President Donald Trump popped the question to Melania at the Met Gala. The two attended every year together up until 2012, but host and Vogue editor-in-chief Anna Wintour rescinded his invitation last year.
