Meghan Markle and Prince Harry Will Receive This Wedding Gift from the Queen

A wedding of royal proportions naturally results in equally grandiose wedding gifts. While Meghan Markle and her soon-to-be-groom, Prince Harry, will most likely follow in Kate Middleton and Prince William's footsteps by asking for charity donations in lieu of presents, Queen Elizabeth II has something better in store for the betrothed pair. And it beats a new set of china or sheets by a long shot.

As per royal tradition, the Queen will gift Harry and Markle with their official royal titles. Following their May 19 nuptials, the pair will gain two separate monikers-an English title and a title to be used in Scotland. Must be nice to have not one, but two, royal names!

However, there's no way of knowing for sure what titles the Queen will bestow on Prince Harry and his future royal bride until the wedding day itself. Harper's Bazaar UK reports that it's highly likely the pair will become the Duke and Duchess of Sussex. As for their Scottish titles, many believe they will be given the titles of Earl and Countess of Ross. This is quite the list of credentials to keep up with!

When Will and Kate tied the knot in 2011, they became the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge. They're also the Earl and Countess of Strathearn to those in Scotland. According to the Press and Journal, a publication in the U.K., the title of earldom has traditionally been bestowed upon second sons in the royal family. But, there's speculation on whether the royal matriarch will place the Ross title on her grandson because of its rather gruesome historical royal background.

"This title was last held by Charles I-who was executed in 1649-so it may well be considered unlucky," Wendy Bosberry-Scott, coeditor of Debrett's Peerage and Baronetage, told Press and Journal. Yikes! Better luck this time around. "Dumbarton is another possibility but, at this point, it is merely speculation and many factors will have to be considered before a suitable title is chosen," she added.

At the end of the day, the fate of Markle's and Harry's titles lie solely in the Queen's hands, and she has to consider the rest of the royal family's ranks before she can come to a decision. No pressure!

As much as we would have loved to have a Princess Meghan, the Duchess of Sussex sure has a nice ring to it!
