With the rise of minimoons and couples choosing to prolong their post-wedding trips, we're all fairly well-versed in the dynamics of the shifting honeymoon sphere. You may not be as up-to-date, however, in terms of actual honeymoon destinations. That's where Pinterest comes in. On top of organizing all your wedding dreams, the trend-focused platform has also pinpointed the three most heavily searched newlywed getaway spots of 2018-and the results may actually surprise you.
Forget tropical beach trips; in Pinterest's 2018 year end wedding report, data shows that honeymoon-related searches for one specific spot were up a whopping 856 percent over the past year. The popular locale? Switzerland! It may not have topped your own honeymoon list, but such a significant spike in Pinterest queries certainly proves there's a method to the madness.
To start, several cities within the picturesque country have landed spots on our list of breathtaking European wedding venues, top tennis resorts for couples, and the best spots to sleep under the stars. Plus, snow bunnies, it's the prime spot for playing in the powder and enjoying a romantic, winter-themed getaway. If you're not fully sold yet, actress Kaley Cuoco, who wed Karl Cook this past June, is currently in Zermatt, Switzerland, on a belated honeymoon, as evidenced by her enviable Instagram feed. If it's earned the celeb stamp-of-approval, you know it's reliable.
As for the remaining areas of honeymoon interest via Pinterest, couples searched for African safaris 219 percent more than last year (we've got your packing list covered, should you be one of them). Bali, Indonesia rounded out the list of heavily-searched getaway destinations, with a 145 percent uptick.
That's not all-the Pinterest findings also indicate a bachelorette party trend. Instead of hamming it up in Vegas, Pinterest users seemed much more interested in going light on the booze and heavy on wellness; searches for spa retreats went up 187 percent.
