Hailey Baldwin Explains Why She Took Justin Bieber's Last Name

These days, many brides are choosing not to do away with their maiden names and latch onto their new spouse's moniker, but newlywed Hailey Baldwin chose to keep this tradition alive. The model explained recently why she made the decision to depart with her iconic family title after tying the knot with Justin Bieber.

The lovebirds discreetly made their marriage official in a low-key city hall wedding last September, with the rumored promise of a more traditional extravaganza later down the road. Shortly after, the 22-year-old model wasted no time making her married name Instagram official. The newly minted Mrs. Bieber recently explained to Bustle her thought process behind officially bidding "Baldwin" goodbye.

"I'm very proud of my family name," she prefaced to Bustle. "I come from a great family with a history in this industry. I remember when I was going to change it, I asked my dad if he was going to be upset and he was like, 'No! I don't care. We love you. All good, everyone still knows you're a Baldwin.' It's true!" The newlywed is Stephen Baldwin's daughter and niece of actor Alec Baldwin, so it's clear the budding Hollywood hotshot has no shortage of well-off relatives.

Even with her father's stamp of approval, that's not to say it was an easy transition initially. "It took some getting used to, for sure. It's definitely strange, it takes adjusting," she explained.

Hailey's father also deserves credit for introducing the couple back in 2009. Fast forward 10 years, and the duo is now taking a stab at newlywed life, which has included waiting until marriage to have sex.
